As the spring sports season begins, our baseball team is showing both exciting improvement in strengths and clear areas where improvement could help them succeed. The team is preparing for a competitive season and seniors are ready to kick butt their last season!
One of the team’s biggest strengths is its strong offense. Several players have shown the ability to make consistent solid contact with the ball and get on base. During practice, the team has demonstrated good hitting throughout the lineup, allowing them to put pressure on opposing defenses. “We have mostly a good defense, and then a good offense on top of it. Our main guys on the mound are good. And a really very fast outfield and a good solid infield, too,” catcher Cole Rogers states.
Another strength of the team is their teamwork and positive attitude. Players have been supportive of each other during practices and games, which helps build strong bonding on the field. Coaches have emphasized communication and trust between teammates: “We take it one game at a time. We don’t predict the future. We just focus on the job ahead. They are very detail driven. They focus on the little things. At the end of the day, they give us the bigger results that help us win,” Coach Carlos shares.
However, like many teams early in the season, there are still areas that need improvement. One challenge the team faces is pitching and baserunning. At times, small errors with communication in the field and stress gives the other team a chance to score. “A current weakness for the team right now is pitching as of right now, but I think we can get it together. And baserunning too,” first baseman Lou Sgriz states.
While the team has a few strong pitchers, developing additional reliable pitchers will be important as the season progresses and games become more demanding.
Despite these challenges, the team remains optimistic. With continued practice, focus, and determination, the players have the potential to build on their strengths and improve their weaknesses throughout the season.
