With the season coming to an end, we caught up with our men’s basketball team one last time. This season with the team, players say the biggest difference from previous years has been the culture inside the locker room.
“The biggest difference this year was that everyone was glued together, and I think it was more than basketball. We were all just closer and at one point all on the same page.” Junior Wisdom D’angelini said.
This chemistry began to show in certain games throughout the season. D’Angelini believes the first matchup against Heritage High School was when the team looked completely different.
“I think the first time we played Heritage, we looked like a different and way better team. Even though we lost, that was the best we played. The locker room was focused, and we weren’t joking around before the game,” D’andelini said.
Junior Liam Simons pointed to another game where he felt the team truly came together. “I think we looked like a different team when we played Wakefield High School. We were all locked in and playing as a team,” Simons said.
The team’s chemistry also carried over into their road games. D’angelini and Simons both agreed that the trip to Sanderson High School had the best overall vibes.
“Sanderson had the best vibes because we all hung out before the game and did stuff as a team and were together the whole time leading up to the game.” Simons said
These moments show how the team’s strong connection helped define the season both on and off the court. As the players head into the off-season, finishing with a record of 13 to 12, the focus shifts to maintaining this bond. With a solid foundation of trust and a “locked-in” mentality established this year, the team is already looking forward to building on this culture to reach even greater heights next season.
