Softball season has started, following high-speed pitches and hard hits. This year’s Wake Forest High School softball team is defined by more than just their hits and catches; they are defined by their dedication, bond, and communication with one another.
The team’s success this year has been built on the hours spent in batting cages and repetitive drills. This approach to practice has led to not only better skills and strategies, but also the players’ ability to accommodate each other’s movements and their connection on and off the field.
Teamwork is the inspiration that drives success on and off the field. Bryce Henault shared that, “The definition of a good teammate is someone who, even when they’re down, they’re able to pick you up and be supportive.” A successful team relies on the coordination and communication of every player.
A majority of the players believe team support helps get through mentally stressful moments in big games, such as their upcoming game against Heritage High School. “I think talking it through with your teammates and having them calm you down through the high-pressure moments helps,” states Emily Drew. Showing up with a positive attitude and mindset going into the Heritage game can bring more energy and a chance to win against one of Wake Forest’s biggest rivals.
Through the strong bonds, friendship, and the work the team has put into this year will assist them into having an accomplished and memorable season. Dedicated to excellence on the field and in the classroom. From the first pitch to the final out, they play with heart, hustle, and Cougar pride.
