Track and field is one of the oldest and most valued sports. At our school, our track students love and support the sport. Track and field athletes say they love the environments and how the sport makes them feel.
“Everybody is like a family. You go down there, and everybody’s ready to start working, and that energy you feed off of.” Junior Michelle Thomas said.
Track isn’t just about running or competing; it’s about being a team. Learning to persevere and work harder to be better.
“Tracks inspired me to better myself every day.” Junior Crews Masten said
Many runners believe it has helped them improve their work ethic and self-confidence. Their love for track comes from their parents or other role models, such as Titus Powers’ dad, who was a collegiate track athlete, or even just an early love for running.
“I’ve always been running since I was little,” Michelle Thomas said. “When I run, I can feel strength in my body. I feel free, and it makes me feel good.”
Track members also mention enjoying the various opportunities they get while participating in track.
“JDL meets during winter track. They are really far away, and the bus rides are fun.” Junior Lila Sharp said
It helps its athletes to strive to grow both physically and academically. Keeping them active and constantly seeing how their hard work pays off. It truly is shaping these students to reach high and learn to work together to move further.
