The Trentini scholarship is a 46-year-running program that awards the top student athletes with a four year scholarship for the school of their choice. On April 16, Anna Ford won this year’s scholarship with the help of principal Melissa Thomas, counselor Lisette Pike, and Kayla Taylor.

 Ford has won $40,000 a year for her college tuition, and plans to use it to attend UNCC, play  Varsity soccer, and major in Business. The scholarship results were announced after a banquet held by the Trentini Foundation.

Ford didn’t win the Trentini scholarship by herself. She got help from friends and teachers who assisted her in achieving this award.

“I did multiple interview practices with the principal [Mrs. Thomas, Miss Tyson, and] the past Trentini winner” Ford said, “Also, everyone who gave me a recommendation they were really helpful, just encouraging me, and then also writing a letter for me.”

To win the scholarship, Ford had to apply for the scholarship, get three letters of recommendation, and then go through a series of interviews with the Scholarship Committee, Wake Forest Council, and Trentini Committee. Options were whittled down to 12, six, and then down to one. Ford said that she did multiple practice interviews with principal Thomas and Mrs. Pike, Dean of Students, which she attributes to her successful win.

Originally, Ford applied for Trentini just to see if there was any possibility of winning it, but over time, her chances only improved. 

“I decided to pursue a scholarship because just seeing Kayla win it last year, and how exciting it was for her, and just seeing what it means to Wake Forest, and all the people who are on the Trentini committee, kind of just inspired me to want to be a part of something like that.”  Ford Said

The banquet was held at the Wake Forest Renaissance Center. This was also our 46th annual Trentini Banquet. Ford stated that the money will be very helpful to her, particularly with her being a student athlete. The scholarship will assist in balancing things in her adult life.
