Zane Williams Named Defensive Player Of The Year
The NAC-VI awarded the title to junior Zane Williams for his performance in the 2022 football season
Junior Zane Williams has been playing varsity football for three years, and this past season he excelled and ended it as the NAC-VI Defensive Player of the Year.
This is an incredible achievement only very few players accomplish throughout their high school career, and Williams expressed how he felt when he was named Defensive POY.
“I was very happy because it was my goal at the beginning of the year,” Williams said.
Some of Williams’ statistics on the year include 142 tackles and 34 tackles for loss. In addition, Williams was a menace to opposing quarterbacks with 11 QB hurries and 10 sacks on the season.
On top of those stats, in order to earn this award, an athlete needs to display certain qualities. Williams describes those qualities he believes he has as a football player.
“I would describe myself as a leader and a role model,” Williams said.
His love of football comes from not just the game itself, but from what goes on off the field.
“The brotherhood and the friendships you make along the way has to be my favorite thing about football,” Williams said.
Although he was named Defensive player of the year, Williams sees traits in himself that he can improve in the next couple of years.
“Being a better leader, a better player and holding my teammates accountable more,” Williams said.
