Few know more about art than Art teacher Sara Roberts. Art has impacted her personally throughout her life more than she can explain.

During her childhood, Robert’s love of art pushed her through the darkness and helped her find the sun.

“When I was a little girl, my mom was really really sick, and we didn’t have a lot of money.  So whenever we had the chance, we would go to the park, mountains, forest and tent camping.  These were the bright moments in all the darkness. They made my heart happy, and this is what really inspired me to start making art.  Being able to remember the good moments instead of the bad ones is so important. Also, my art now has pictures of all the beautiful places I’ve been,” Roberts said.

Art is everywhere, so it is hard to imagine what our world would be like without it.

Our world would be, “dull, coloreless, and boring,” Roberts said.  You can’t help but agree.

Art is not just the typical art you think of like paintings, but also movies, music and books.

Roberts’ favorite movie is Dirty Dancing because, “I love dancing and it fills me with joy. Even now as an adult, I love to dance, and it inspires me to love more. Dirty Dancing encompasses this love in a movie,” Roberts said.

As we know, Roberts loves to dance, and her favorite song to dance to is “Stop Me from Falling” by Kylie Minogue.

“It’s romantic, it’s fun, I just love it,” Roberts said.

Art sometimes evokes emotions in people that they didn’t know they could feel. Different kinds of art can make us feel different ways.

“Art that is bringing your attention to a serious purpose can make you feel anger and fear, while something abstract and happy can make you feel joy,” Roberts said.

Roberts makes a variety of art, from collages, to ornaments, to murals. She has a collage mural in the Joyner Park Community Center that you can go see. She also has a mural on the outside of the Wake Forest Renaissance Center.

Her favorite kind of art to make is, “Collages for sure. You can combine many different things. I have a collage that has pictures of all the places I’ve been together in one piece of art, which I think is really neat. My mural in Joyner Park has little pictures of all the staples around our town.”
