Ackles Named NAC-VI Coach of the Year

Each winter, six basketball teams compete in the NAC-VI conference.  These teams are led by coaches who, at the end of each season, vote on the conference coach of the year.

Head boys’ basketball coach, Greg Ackles was selected by his peers as the NAC-VI coach of the year after the team’s much improved performance from last year.  The team finished the 2020-21 season with an overall record of 3-8, and an in conference record of 3-5.  Just one year later, the team finished the season with an overall record of 18-6, with an in conference record of 8-2.

Ackles’ peers were impressed by his performance, but Ackles gives the credit to the team and staff around him.

Ackles said, “I mean it feels great, you know, but it’s more that the kids did what they were supposed to do, and I get the credit. You know they brought in more this year than what we did, than what we wanted to do versus last year, during the covid year.  It’s also a testament to our staff, great coaches and assistants helped me out.  You know, like I said, I get the credit but this is more about the kids and whatever they’re supposed to be doing, and my staff helping me out.”
