On Feb. 5, the girls’ cheer team placed second in the Wake County Championship, which concluded their season.  The team competed in the medium varsity division and were led by coach Robin Faulkner.

“This cheer season brought some new challenges,” Faulkner said.  “I was very happy with the way the team pulled together to get our competition routine on the floor.”

In coaching for 25 years, Faulkner believes the best part of this year was seeing her athletes persevere and accomplish their goals.

“The team that I ended up with is not the team I started with, and they are rock stars.  They met the challenges we faced head on and prevailed in the end,” Faulkner said.

The team placed second overall in the Wake County Championship.  For cheer competitions such as this, performances are scored using four categories: cheer, building, tumbling/jumps and deductions.

Even with the setbacks, the team was able to have a memorable experience.

“I feel like this season was good. We had a lot of bumps in the road, and I’m very proud of us for being able to overcome those obstacles we faced,” junior Courtney Campbell said.
