With the leadership of senior players and coach Justin Richards, this year’s boys’ golf team had a very successful season, accomplishing their goal to qualify for regional competition.

Richards reflects on the accomplishments and improvements of the team.

“We had a great regular season. At the beginning of the year, we set goals. Every individual set goals, and then we talked about our goals as a team. One of them was to return back to the regional that qualifies the team as being one of the top three teams to qualify, and that’s exactly what we did,” Richards said.

Senior Finn Jarell was a strong contributor to this year’s team.

“This year Finn Jarrell had a very good season. Finn is consistent. He has a nice easy swing, he stays in the fair way, he doesn’t take crazy risks, but he has been very stable for us,” Richards said.

Senior Landon Warrick, a two-time regional qualifier, provided additional senior leadership to the team.

“Landon leads by example. He’s a no nonsense guy, meaning he knows exactly what’s important for each and every match and focuses on the way to the matches, and everyone follows his lead,” Richards said. “He always has the best interest of the team in mind and is very helpful with the young guys.”

The competition within the team sparked motivation to do well.

Richards said, “In practice they push each other, and they have to qualify and have to beat each other out because they want to compete in the big match, so everyone stepped up their game, and that contributed to a lot of our success.”
