After having one regional qualifier in senior Matt MacDowall last season, the golf team has their sights set on some team-oriented goals this season.

“Our goal every year is to qualify for regionals as a team. They take the top four teams in the Cap-8 for regionals. That has always been our top goal. Ultimately, you always want to go and compete as a team,” coach Justin Richards said. “Even though it’s an individual sport in a lot of ways, the team aspect values more in qualifying for regional and state championships for the school.”

With MacDowall making regionals last year, he is not complacent with what he’s already accomplished.

MacDowall said he hoped, “to stay focused and make it to states this year. Last year I made it to regionals, but I want to make it further.”

Richards needs his young golfers to contribute.

Richards said, “We have a lot of young guys from last year that can pick up where they left off and keep improving. Hopefully, we will have a couple freshmen that can come in and make an impact, and fill the spots for the couple seniors that we lost, and hopefully get better throughout the year.”
