Brittany Owens, the coach of the girls’ flag football team, has been working very hard with her players to enhance their performance on the field.
”Wake County started the program last year and hopes to continue to grow the sport,” Owens said.
However, while starting the girl’s flag football team, there will be a lot of new things the athletes will need to learn and become accustomed to.
“We have had to do everything from ordering new uniforms and equipment to learning the specific rules of the league,” Owens said.
This girl’s flag football team is fairly new to the school.
“Our main goal is for the girls to continue improving every game and practice so they can develop more confidence in the sport and themselves,” Owens said.
Even though the new athletes and coaches have been working very hard and striving to get themselves out there.
“I am excited to see the growth of the players. They have been working hard trying to learn the skills, and the rules of the game, and I am excited to see them compete” Owens said.
Already the sport has had more attention than last year.
“Last year we did not have enough people show up to the interest meeting so initially we were worried about that, but quickly realized that we had plenty of interest this year with over 50 girls showing up,” Owens said.
Wake County and Coach Owens are extremely excited to start this girl’s flag football team.
“I hope to see an increase in the number of fans attending female athletic events,” Owens said. “All of the games will be in “super site” format so hopefully having three or four teams at once event will increase attendance.”
