On Monday, Sept. 8, the varsity and junior varsity boys’ soccer teams faced off against Jordan High School, ending in a 0 to 0 draw in both games.
The jv team started off the match with great defense. The ball was taken away from them right before they were in range for a shot. They advanced to midfield multiple times, but couldn’t maintain possession and capitalize on the other team’s high defensive line.
“We just couldn’t capitalize on their mistakes.” Isaac Taylor, the jv team captain and sophomore goalkeeper said.
Varsity’s game was fairly back and forth, unlike jv. With good plays by both teams and chances left and right. There were shots on goal from both teams, but no goals were ever conceded as nobody could break the tie before the end of the match.
Nolan Thompson, the captain of the varsity team, gives insight into what he thinks needs to be done to have a good game.
“Be serious early and get a good warm-up and win the game, but we ended up tying.” Nolan Thompson, said.
Jordan took advantage of the yellow cards during the varsity game, but it didn’t seem to be enough to break the score to 1-0 as varsity shut down attempts to score, continuing with the stalemate
Varsity concludes with a 4 to 4 to 5 record after their other recent games. Jordan currently has a 0 to 4 to 2 record. Jv head coach Austin Talmadge plans to work on connecting passes and taking control in the midfield to work toward more goals. With hope, it will lead to more wins.
Varsity aims to get fewer yellow cards to take advantage of the games and to get up the field, score, and get more chances at shooting.
