As we settle into the new school year, it brings new leadership to the National Honor Society (NHS), with Caroline Sutton and Zainab Bhatti stepping into their roles as the program’s new advisors.
Bhatti´s motivation to become an advisor arises from her passion for supporting students who want to challenge themselves and make a positive difference. She aspires to create an environment where students can take on leadership roles and give back to their community. Her goals for this year include focusing on service projects closely linked to the school and the community, while also increasing opportunities for members to pursue leadership activities.
“My hope is that everyone in NHS feels proud of what we accomplish together,” Bhatti said.
Freshman school counselor Sutton was motivated by the opportunity to support students from their first year of high school. She views NHS as an ideal way to establish a community of scholars eager to support and connect with others.
“I would love to see the NHS be student-led and operated,” Sutton said. “I want the organization to be a reflection of our amazing students and their vision.”
She aspires for NHS to be a positive influence on other students, improving both the school and community through active service.
Both advisors provided helpful tips for students interested in joining NHS. Bhatti encourages students to go for it and get involved with activities they care about. She encouraged students to start small and be engaged, and they will be surprised by how much they can contribute.
Sutton emphasized the importance of academic effort, as GPA plays a significant role in getting an invitation. She highlighted the importance of volunteering and building a good relationship with teachers to encourage student to find a passion for community service.
“Establish positive relationships with staff; don’t burn any bridges!” Sutton said.
The NHS community is excited to see how this club unfolds during this school year, as well as to give back to the community and create memories along the way.
