As many know, Fantasy Football is a big deal. People all over the world come together in leagues to compete.
Some people are really serious about winning and tend to bet money or incorporate punishments in their leagues for last place finishers, such as having to wear a funny outfit to school or the 24-hour waffle house challenge.
Playing is not just about winning. It is also an excuse for friends or family to get together and watch the games.
“I became interested in Fantasy Football because it’s something fun to do with family and friends,” senior Joe Sqrizzi said.
Some people are very dedicated and have been playing the game for a long time.
“Probably would say, definitely, early 2000s. I wanna say 2000 or 2001 was probably the first year,” English teacher Justin Richards said.
There are lots of drafting strategies adopted by players hoping to find the best team.
“Normally, I try to get the highest pick I can, and I go for a running back,” junior Gavin Greer said.
Picking a running back first is common for many players.
“This year I tried to only draft players from the top 12 teams in the preseason power rankings. Our league is an auction league. I added $1 to CMC to raise him to $72, hoping to get someone else to overspend on him, but I ended up getting him. That was lucky because I’m currently in first place in our league,” English teacher Geoff Belcher said.
The players you pick can make or break your team.
“Lowkey, CD Lahm is probably my strongest. It would be Kupp but he’s injured,” junior Tobias Cassio said.
These games can be heartbreaking when you are down in points.
“It’s made it a lot more fun and kind of stressful,” junior Matthew Howard said.
Overall, playing Fantasy Football makes watching the game so much more fun.
“It makes it more fun as a result you are watching every game with some interest,” senior Hunter Hoy said.
