Teens Eye The Reopened State Fair

As fall approaches, people are getting excited for the crisp air, colorful leaves and most importantly the NC State Fair. It has been a year since anyone could attend the Fair because of Covid-19, but that isn’t stopping some kids from attending.

“Covid-19 isn’t a problem for me cause I’m not at risk to die from it, but I will continue to mask and social distance for other people’s sake,” junior Louis Cook said.

Even though some kids aren’t worried about Covid-19, it is a concern to others.

“Covid-19 is a factor in my decision, and I will not go if it could be unsafe, but I am vaccinated, and since it is mostly outside, I’m not very worried,” junior Siena McGarrigle said.

For many, the most exciting thing about the fair is the food. From simple foods like chicken tenders to the most outrageous foods such as the Krispy Kreme cheeseburger, students are excited for it all.

For senior Abbey Boone two favorites are “Fried oreos and lemonade.” Another student was more excited about the savory foods rather than the sweet ones.

“I would say the buttered corn. I love corn,” junior Gabriel Del Bosque said.

We can’t forget about the main point of the Fair—the rides. Everyone loves that feeling when you’re at the top of the roller coaster, and you feel butterflies in your stomach and you feel like you are flying for a split second.

Junior Pacey Shell is looking forward to a few of the rides.

“One of the roller coasters or swings because they are fast and they go pretty high, which makes them really fun,”Shell said.

While some students love the thrill of going fast and high, some just like the calming feeling of seeing all the lights at the top of the ferris wheel.

Senior Juan Smith favors this ride, “because it’s not scary, it’s a great view and just an overall great experience.”

With the Fair finally coming back. It’s helping life feel a little more normal. With this one step towards returning back to regular life, I know I’m not the only one who hopes the holiday season will be back and better than ever.
