Senior Josh Rutland has concluded his high school soccer career by becoming a member of the All-State team. Rutland is the newest addition to the four soccer athletes that have been awarded All-State in the past three years.

Rick Pittarelli, coach of the varsity boys’ soccer team, details Rutland’s advantages in the All-State selection.

“Once it gets to All-State, it is a completely different voting process. There were two athletes that were nominated, but Josh was the only one that made it through. Statistically, Josh led the team in the most goals, and it was hard for other players to match up against him,” Pittarelli said.

This season Rutland has led the team with 18 goals in 19 games played. Rutland’s dedication to soccer, continual improvement and skills propelled him to this level of accomplishment.

“From his sophomore year until now he was a completely different player,” Pittarelli said.”His work ethic, his ability to play the game: it all changed, he just got better. He is a leader on and off the field, and he has a true passion for soccer.”
