I coached both Jamie Holland and Reggie Lucas in the Wake Forest Junior League (13, 14 and 15 years old) Baseball City League in the late seventies. Both Reggie and Jamie had the best attitudes and were two of only a few young men that had both ability and good attitudes which I am very proud to have coached. They were two of the finest young men I have ever coached!
I knew Jamie would go places in the world of atheletics. He was very fast, I don’t remember another young man with the speed Jamie had at his young age. Jamie played left field and I remember, during a game with the Rolesville Junior League, when a towering fly ball was hit to right field and Jamie called off both the center fielder and the righter to make the catch! Quite a feat for anybody to perform. I thought to myself, when he began yelling “I’ve got it! I’ve got it!”, “He will never catch it!” BUT HE DID! Even the Rolesville fans applauded the catch.
Jamie was outstanding at running the bases. I told the other guys, when they got on base, to play off about a body’s. I told Jamie to judge for himself! When he got on first you may as well let him go on to third, he was going to get there anyway.
Both Jamie Holland and Reggie Lucas are very deserving of the success they both have had. They were easy to coach. Both worked very hard at practice and listened and followed instructions.
I am very proud of both of these young men and glad they decided to return to Wake Forest High School!!
