Senior Brandon Locklear honored by Raleigh Sports Club
February 8, 2016
Another member of the Cougar family has been honored by the Raleigh Sports Club. Senior Brandon Locklear has been named as one of their student athletes of the week.
Locklear has played varsity football for three seasons, and has started on the offensive line all those years.
“This was definitely a great honor because I worked hard to get here, and I’ve been pushed hard by my family, coaches and teammates, so it feels good to accomplish something that I can enjoy with them,” Locklear said.
At all of the ceremonies there is a guest speaker that is either a famous local athlete or coach, or a current coach or popular local face.
“The guest speaker at my ceremony was the head women’s basketball coach from UNC Chapel Hill,” Locklear said. “She told me that she was very proud of me and liked what I was doing with my life all around.”
This is a very prestigious award throughout the triangle. It has gone to some of the best and most well-remembered athletes from the area, one past Cougar in particular; Bryce Love was honored with a student athlete of the week award last year.
“It’s a very warm feeling that I’ve been remembered as one of the good athletes from the area like Bryce,” Locklear said.
Many of the athletes honored by the Raleigh Sports Club go on to be very successful at the college level, and Locklear intends to do the same.
Locklear said, “I hope to play college football at a smaller school probably Division II or Division III and do a double major in criminal justice and forensic science.”
