Both the boys’ and girls’ teams celebrated senior night in style with decisive wins over Enloe Wednesday, Oct. 9.
The boys took 9 of the top ten finishes to defeat the Eagles 18 to 45.
Senior Calvin Ulrich won his final home appearance with a time of 17:45. Ulrich was followed by Cougar scorers sophomore Bailey Autry at 17:55, juniors Kamron Heath at 18:46.4 and Brett Zeck at 18:46.8 and freshman Joseph Lawhorn with a time of 19:07.
Ulrich and other seniors were celebrated with decorations and individualized posters hung up at the picnic shelter.
“It was very heartwarming and awesome. My poster was pretty cool,” Ulrich said.
Four-year runner, senior Grace Yoakum also won her final race at Flaherty park more than two minutes ahead of the closest Eagle runner. Grace finished with a time of 22:06.
“I didn’t run that fast, but I still won, so I’m happy,” Yoakum said. Grace also enjoyed the festivities for her last home meet and found the posters “heartwarming.”
Like the boys’ team, the girls dominated the race with 11 Cougar runners in the top 12.
Following Grace was junior Megan Lanzon at 22:21.
A trio of freshmen Casey Turro, Sarah Weber, and Emma Anderson took 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively, coming in at the 22:48, 22:59 and 23:44 marks.
Senior Rebecca Yoakum finished 6th overall ahead of the first Enloe runner.
