Reporters asked students and teachers: When should the United States’ support for Ukraine end? Why? Here are some of their responses.
“Whenever Ukraine is officially safe from Russia. They don’t need our support anymore.” Emmanuel Snow, 11
“The U.S.’ support for Ukraine should not end until the Russians are defeated.” Tara Wojciechowski, teacher
“The U.S. should not stop supporting them until Putin has declared he will stop invading them, and the president of Ukraine has shown gratitude towards us, and just doesn’t need aid anymore.” Joel Cochran, 12
“The support should end simply when Ukraine is no longer in need of our assistance. They need us for our artillery support, and other things like that. We are supporting Ukraine because this was brought upon them with no warning, and they were not prepared. Until we can help them become more stable, I believe we should still help them.” Katie Henig, 12
“I think that support would end when, like, Ukraine is stable and the people aren’t struggling. Obviously supporting the war is expensive, and I don’t think it is smart to do that much longer, so I think as long as Ukraine stays in control we should stop supporting them soon.” Emma Smith, 10
“I feel as though the United States should pull support from Ukraine once the conflict is finally over. Until Ukraine is safe from Russia’s oppression, we should not pull out our aid from Ukraine.” Brady Schwier, 12
“With the information I have on the current events in Ukraine, I think the US should continue to support Ukraine as long as we can to prevent the spread of Russia into other areas of Europe that would follow Russia’s invasion and f Ukraine. I think that the US would need to withdraw from Ukraine if the military of Russia began to attack the US directly in a way that greatly endangered our citizens in order to defend and regroup.” Keagan Siegers, 11
Reporters asked students and teachers: How should the United States respond to the war between Israel and Hamas? Here are a few of the responses.
“I honestly feel like the United States should stay out of it to keep at peace. We should stop funding Israel and supplying them with weapons in my opinion.” Jazzmyn Ohlson, 11
“I think they should help the mothers and children with food, water and feminine care.” Zainab Bhatti, teacher
“It’s kind of a difficult question because both sides are in the wrong in their own respective ways, so I feel like the United States should focus on getting both their citizens out and focus on their citizens and stuff like that, but I don’t know if they should really pick a side in this war.” Aiden Rigby, 12
“I think we shouldn’t get too involved with the conflict. We spend a lot of money on Ukraine, and I don’t think we can afford to support another foreign war. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the war, but I don’t think we should get too involved.” Marissa Mascardi, 10
“I think they should leave it alone before the situation becomes a World War.” Matthew Howard, 11
“The U.S, as usual, has to play the role of peace keeper. I think right now the most important thing is the humanitarian aspect and making sure the people who are still trapped in Gaza are getting clean water and getting access to health care.” Elias Zaytoun, teacher
“The war in Israel and Palestine is terrible but the U.S. shouldn’t interfere with any force. Cutting of trade with both parties until a cease fire is released or humanitarian efforts are allowed in might result in the best scenario.” Josh Shelley, 11
“The U.S should very least stop supporting and funding Israel even if that means taking neither side. I think they should support Palestine, which is unlikely to happen given the U.S was the only county to say no when the UN asked if they supported a cease fire on Palestine.” Evelyn Doss, 11
“The United States should stay out of the actual fighting part, but our support should still be there. If we get involved with the fighting aspect, then we will be digging ourselves into a deeper hole and might open ourselves up to attack.” Jacob Kiener, 12
“America has to take the humanitarian side of the attacks. We need to go and provide support to the innocent citizens who are being impacted by Hamas. The U.N. made a pact against terrorist attacks when 9/11 happened, and we need to step up to that.” Lily Hare, 12
