Boys’ Lacrosse

Brand new after years of denial and excuses, a boys’ lacrosse team will finally take the field.
Excuses have been made for years why we could not get a lacrosse team: we didn’t have field space, or enough players and it would cost too much money.
After realizing that we would not need to purchase sticks or helmets, the Athletic Director Mike Joyner finally allowed us to have a team.
Last year was our first year to field a girls’ lacrosse team and players were not a problem. There were a total of 32 girls on varsity last year, which is almost two teams. What’s worse is that many boy players slated to be students at WF transferred to other local schools strictly for lacrosse. Had we allowed a team to go forward two years ago, those players would be Cougars.
But now that we are here, fans needn’t worry about experience. Coach Jay Borrioti has had prior coaching experience with a new high school team. Borrioti was one of the first coaches at Heritage High School when they had a brand new team.
So now, I believe it’s time to embrace lacrosse and help make it a part of the Cougar sports family.
